First, the forging blanks are sawn to size from rolled C60 tempering steel. Then the red-hot blank is shaped on a forging press and the axe eye is punched. Excess burr is removed. The red-hot axe blade is forged on the stretching roller.
The final shape is created under the forge hammer, where excess material is deburred and the blade is pre-ground. After this step, our axes are stamped OCHSENKOPF and tempered (a process of hardening and tempering), which guarantees the axe edge our famous hardness and toughness.
As a final step in the manufacturing process, the surface is sandblasted and fine ground. A crowned grind increases the stability of the edge, and clear varnish protects against corrosion. Now the axe only needs to be hammered in and wedged. The triple wedging with a wooden wedge and two ring wedges ensures a permanent and secure connection.
